This term in Challenge we launched our writing focus by attending the Scribblers Festival at Scotch College. The students listened to a variety of different authors explain their motivation and ideas for writing. We also got to meet the authors afterwards and get their autographs.
The Challenge students were then set the challenge to write a 2000 word story over the term. International best-selling author, Rachael Johns, has been coming in every Challenge lesson and sharing her knowledge on how to write a great story. She has also been working with the students on their editing.
Our librarian, Shona Minchington, also attends our Challenge lessons and is helping guide the students through their story writing.
It is very exciting watching the students use what they are learning, extend themselves in their writing skills and getting so much enjoyment about creating their own stories. We hope to print all of the stories in a book for our school community to read.
