On Thursday 24th May some of our Year 5 and 6 students went to an inter-school AFL carnival where they competed against eight local schools in a round robin competition.
I had the pleasure of talking with Ana and Grace from Year 5 about their day.
“I was kind of nervous but excited on the bus” said Grace but they sang songs and John’s rendition of The Wheels on the Bus helped ease the nerves."
When the students got to Ron Jose Oval they put on their studs and did warm up activities with the help of some fabulous parent helpers.
“The first game we played we lost but only by a little” said Ana. “Grace also marked her first ball ever and Elliot and I both kicked our first ever goals too”.
In between games the team rested, ate food and played king of the pack. Their second game was a draw, the third game was a very convincing win, and the last game which was the grand final was also a convincing win against Beechboro!
When asked what the team learnt from the start of the day to the end of the day, the girls agreed that they learnt how to work together, get rid of the ball quicker and call to each other before kicking the ball.
Both girls would 100% do it again next year and are excited for the upcoming netball carnival now as well.
