The theme for Book Week 2017 is ‘Escape to Everywhere’
The date for Book Week this year is from 21 - 25 August. Each year, many schools and libraries from all over Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators.
At Kalamunda Christian School we will be celebrating Book Week with our Dramatic Reading Competition for Years 1 - 6, and a Book Week Character Parade for all students.
For our Book Week Character Parade, all students are encouraged to dress up as a favourite book character. Parents are invited to attend the parade. Our wonderful teachers will be presenting a drama from a children’s book story in the school gymnasium.

Book character costume
If any students choose not to dress as a book character, they can wear their normal school uniform. Please note that the costume does not need to be too elaborate. We would encourage parents to use dress-up clothes from home for the event.
Students need to be familiar with their character and the book from which it has been chosen. Children are welcome to bring their book along to school with them.
As a Christian community, we are asking parents to assist us in selecting appropriate characters that would complement our values and beliefs. We would ask that characters such as witches, wizards, ghosts or vampires be avoided, as these may offend people within our school family. If you are unsure and would like to clarify this further, please speak to your child’s teacher.
If it is practical for your child to stay in their dress-up costume for the day, they may do so. If it is necessary for them to change after the dress-up parade, please ensure they bring the appropriate full uniform required for the day.
Please feel free to contact the school office should you have any questions or need further clarification about the character parade.
