From the Principal – 16 April 2021

Hi Folks

I do hope that you have all had a wonderful Easter and break with your kids. We are looking forward to having them all back next week for what is set to be another great term of learning and special events.

Student Academic Prowess

Following hard on the heels of our students gaining fifth place in the Australian Times Tables competition at the end of Term 1, we are proud to announce that nine of our students are advancing to the State/Territory Finals in the Prime Minister's Spelling Bee! We congratulate Amelia C, Amber B, Audrey C, Peter L, Nicholas L, Oliver T, Ruby T, Pippa W and Greta C. We wish them all the very best in the State/Territory finals being held on 29th April.

Staffing

We are happy to announce that Mrs. Natalie Carter has been appointed to replace Lark Langridge as Education Assistant in Year 3 class for three mornings a week. Natalie has worked here before, undertaking her main placement with us while training.

The school most unexpectedly received the resignation of Rev Oey from the Chaplaincy role at the start of the Term break. This however will in no way diminish our full commitment to providing students with appropriate support as we consider future actions. Mrs Wheat is already onto finding a suitable replacement for those students who had him as a music tutor.

Parents in Partnership

Thank you to all who put their names forward to be part of the PIP group. We are so appreciative of the willingness to be vitally involved in the life of the school supporting the three key aims of the group:

  • Bringing together and fostering good relationships between community members.

Property Developments

  • The holiday break has been an opportunity for some important work to progress across the school. The major development has been the installation of a powerful upgraded server and rack plus further work on the new PA system and STEM facilities.
  • Applications are now with Council for both an entry statement for the corner of Canning and Halleendale Roads and the installation of the toilet block to be located near the oval.
  • At the start of the year the school employed the services of an arborist to inspect, tag and report on each of the hundreds of trees on the property. Of these two were identified as needing urgent removal due to disease and dangerous limbs. Unfortunately, one of these was the one located between the current Year 5 and Year 6 classrooms and has been felled and removed. We are working with a company to develop this area as a new play space plus replanting of further trees.
