From the Principal – 6 November 2020

Hi Folks

I am writing my contribution to this newsletter from the scenic city of Albany as part of the Year 6 camp contingent. What an action-packed week it has been thanks to the outstanding planning by Mrs Jones and the leadership of Mrs Rimmer and Mrs Minchington. The students have done the school and their parents proud, and I cannot wait to join the Year 5’s at Point Peron.

The School Newsletter and More

In taking note of matters raised in the community survey and after consultation with the Parents in Partnership group and key staff, the school is looking at aspects of communications, vital to positive partnership. From now on the school newsletter will be issued on a regular fortnightly basis. You can now expect each issue late on a Friday in the even weeks of each school term. In addition, we will produce a ‘Back to School’ issue during each break where deemed necessary.

From the start of 2021 the school will no longer be producing ‘The Saint’ magazine as its purpose has been superseded in the main by regular online updates of information and activities via our Facebook and Instagram pages and the KCS App (search for Kalamunda CS in your App Store or Google Play Store). What will be produced is a formal Yearbook that will be distributed to all families at the end of the year.

Grandparents Day in this COVID year

Grandparents and grand friends are an important part of the Kalamunda Christian School community. There are so many ways that they bless our school and the families within it. We frequently have grandparents/friends doing drop-offs, pick-ups, attending events, providing homework help, being an extra set of ears or hands for activities, being proud cheer squad members and champions of their grandchildren on a daily basis. So many cultures acknowledge that it takes a village to raise a child; many of us are so fortunate that we can rely on our own parents to support us with our children. For people that do not have family here, we also do well with the ‘adopt a grand-friend’ concept. There are so many ways that the ‘grand generation’ are a part of our community, and we welcome it!

In order to show our appreciation but fall in line with making safe choices in the current climate, we’ve opted to modify our Grandparents and Grand Friends event on Wednesday 18 November. This will be an afternoon session that occurs right before pick-up time at 3:00pm.

Grandparents or Grand-friends are invited to join us from 2:00pm to watch the choir, have a tea, coffee or hot chocolate and a biscuit, then participate in an activity outside the classrooms, plus a visit to the Book Fair (a great way to add to the Christmas gift!). This event will predominantly be outside, so we encourage hats. If you have a grandparent/friend that would enjoy attending on behalf of your family, we would love to have them attend.
