From the Principal – 18 November 2021

Hi Folks

Honour is the first of our four school values (the others being integrity, generosity and humility) and it stands first for good reason. Respect for others underpins everything we do; it is foundational to all healthy relationships and ultimately is rooted in Jesus’ message that we are to “love our neighbour as ourselves” and to “do unto others what you would have them do to you.”

One very public way in which we display this value is the respect we pay those who have served, and currently serve, in defending and promoting our freedoms and way of life as last week we commemorated Remembrance Day with a special service led by our Year 6 students.

Appointment of Chaplain and Teacher of Chinese

We are pleased to announce that we have appointed two new staff commencing 2022.

Tannya Nicholas will be our school Chaplain. Tannya serves as part time Chaplain at Beechboro Christian School since 2019 and has an Advanced Diploma and Diploma of Counselling studies. She and her family have had a long-term commitment to Mundaring Church of Christ. Tannya will work at our school on a Wednesday and Thursday. Along with her chaplaincy support of students and their families she will be closely involved in the regular RAVE assemblies, student leadership and service learning.

Enya Chen will be teaching Chinese language and culture for 2022 while Mr Sundlund is on special leave. She currently teaches at Bannister Creek Primary School and holds a B. Ed in early Childhood and Primary teaching from Murdoch. Enya is active in the life of Faith Community Church and is a most talented pianist and artist. She will be teaching at KCS on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Volunteers Afternoon Tea

The work of volunteers is vital to the life and future of our school. We are so grateful to those who can and do step up in classrooms, on sport courts and fields, at working bees, at special events, at carnivals and a plethora of other activities that directly benefit the kids and build this great school.

All parents, grandparents and friends of the school who have volunteered in support of school programs, events and teams are warmly invited to a special afternoon tea on Tuesday 30 November.

Book Fair

This week of the year is always so special as we display quality books for families to purchase for both home and the school. Today we loved having all the grandparents and special friends come along to be entertained and cajoled into perusing the shelves and selecting some awesome books.

Thank you to Shona Minchington (a.k.a Mrs. M) who once again has gone above and beyond in making this week such a special part of the school year at KCS.

Music Alive and Well

Anne Wheat will be hosting the final concerts for the musical ensembles on the Monday and Tuesday afternoons of the 22nd and 23rd November (Week 7). These concerts will run during normal after school rehearsal time and be held in Room 17.

  • Monday 22 November: Training Band and String Ensemble Concert (3:15pm – 3:50pm).
  • Tuesday 23 November: Performing Band (3:15pm – 3:50pm).

Parents of the students involved are most welcome and cups of tea/coffee will be available afterwards using the art room facilities.

I look forward to seeing you all at the upcoming Christmas concerts on Friday 3rd December.
