From the Principal – 5 May 2022

Hi Folks. Welcome back to this wonderful term with the well-earned freedoms allowing us to once again enjoy the sense of community that KCS is noted for. I would like to specially extend a warm welcome to the eight new students and their families who have joined us since the start of term.

It was so good having so many of the Pre-Kindy and Kindy mums gather for their Mother’s Day celebration, and we are looking forward to tomorrow morning when we hold Mums and Muffins before school for Pre-Primary to Year 6.

Early Years Enrolments

Could you please spread the word amongst your friends who may have children old enough to start at Pre-Kindy (Kick Start) during the remainder of this year. We do have some spaces available and would love to arrange a tour. It is those ‘word of mouth’ recommendations, personally and in social media, that are making a real difference.

Staffing Notices

The school is close to finalising the replacement for Mrs. Carrie Burne as she starts her maternity leave in a fortnight’s time. We will let everyone know shortly of the arrangements.

We hope that you have had a chance to read the important notice from SCEA earlier this week, concerning Dr. Weaver stepping into the Acting Principal role at Southern Hills Christian College while their principal is on Long Service Leave and Mrs. Grubb stepping up as Acting Principal at KCS for the last four weeks of Term 2 and the first four of Term 3. Any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Weaver at gregg.weaver@kalamundacs.wa.edu.au.

Parent Code of Conduct

With such a disrupted 1st Term, some of our families have not yet returned their SCEA Parent Code of Conduct issued at the start of the year. Please have these into the office within the next week.

NAPLAN Next Week

The annual nation-wide tests for Year 3 and 5 commonly known as NAPLAN are being held next week. These tests assess student knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. We wish all the students the very best. From 2023 these tests will be conducted in Term 1 to provide more timely feedback to teachers and parents.

Compassion Update

We’ve just received an update on the Compassion International Project that the students chose last year and that our Cans for Compassion donations have gone toward. The project involves supporting 33 youth in Indonesia in completing their tertiary studies. The report is that all are doing well despite the challenges of COVID.

We will have another class choose our next project shortly. Please keep filling the Compassion bins and making a real difference to the lives of others.

Bible Memory Verses

As explained in the newsletter that came out at the end of the Easter holiday break, the rest of this year the focus is on some important parts of The Sermon on the Mount, passages  special to Christianity. Currently the students are becoming familiar with The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-10).

God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.

God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.

God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.

God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.

10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
